Porcelain treats

Porzellan Manufactur Nymphenburg Porzellan Manufactur Nymphenburg

Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg is an established handcrafted porcelain company and has been around for 260 years. The place where the porcelain figures and objects are produced has been, since the 18th century, in this one same location – the Nördliches Schlossrondell in Nymphenburg, Germany. Now I find that mighty amazing, because in my country, places don’t last long. Take, for instance, the school where I spent two unforgettable pre-U years. Barely 30 years old, and everything has already been torn down and rebuilt.

While I have no space to place any of the beautiful porcelain creatures or figures in my home, I love looking at these pieces. There’s just something very calm, quaint and pure about a porcelain piece. Other than the usual luxury pieces of cherubs and maidens and hunters, there are sea creatures, along with other animals too:

And of course there is the whole range of very exquisite dinnerware. I suppose food tastes a whole lot better with these!

Nymphenburg porcelain ware is also available in the US at Kneen & Co., in Chicago. You can browse or get store details here.

All set!

Despite having lived a stone’s throw away from Holland Village only just recently, I haven’t visited any of the shops at Chip Bee Gardens, which is just behind the construction site (a new MRT station soon!) at the Holland Village area. But, I’m finally heading to Bistro Petit Salut!

For my French fix, I’ve been relying on the occasional visit to the bigger Au Petit Salut restaurant, the 100-seater at Harding Road. This time, I’m going to meet up two ol’ buddies of mine for a lunch catch-up there. Thanks to Chin who said she wanted to dine at a more ‘exciting’ than the run-of-the-mill places we’re already tired out in Holland Village itself. So we’re heading just opposite — to Chip Bee Gardens of course.

I first dined at Au Petit Salut at Harding Road with my bunch of taitai-wannabes of glam-friends. The old-school charm of the place and the alfresco dining (and the divine menu) are the perfect backdrop for a lovely afternoon with good friends. My first meal? It’s my favourite combination to date (I’ve been known to rarely deviate):

Half dozen baked Burgundy snails with tomato and garlic butter
Pan seared onglet beef served with confit shallots and french fries
Organic dark chocolate mousse 70% with raspberry coulis and rice crispies

Yums!

Situated at Jalan Merah Saga at Chip Bee Gardens, the sister-outlet Bistro Petit Salut has a slightly more affordable menu at S$25++ per pax for the same lunch set menu. You may wish to make an advance booking (numbers below) if you wish to dine at either of the Au Petit Salut restaurants – I heard from Chris my foodie pal that the bookings are usually full a week ahead.

Enjoy ~
